Rose Pink Italian Ranunculus Corms
These stunning flowers, known for their delicate, multi-layered blooms and rich, vibrant colours, are the perfect addition to any garden.
Italian Ranunculus, (not the regular ‘garden variety’) are originally from the Mediterranean, have a rich history dating back to the Victorian era, where they were prized for their unique beauty and symbolic meaning.
In Victorian times, Ranunculus were often associated with charm, attractiveness, and grace, making them a favourite in floral arrangements and gardens. Their origins trace back to Italy, where they flourished in the warm, sunny climate, but with the right care, they can thrive in a variety of settings.
If you're in a South Victorian climate, don't worry—growing Italian Ranunculus is easy! Here's a simple guide to help you grow them:
Planting: Start by planting the corms in well-drained soil in mid-late autumn (I’ll plant mine in April), about 5-7 cm deep. Choose a sunny spot, as these flowers love the warmth and light. They thrive in soil that's rich in organic matter and has good drainage.
Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist but avoid over-watering, as the corms are prone to rot in soggy conditions.
Winter Care: If you’re in an area with cold winters, it's important to provide protection against frost. You can cover the plants with mulch to help insulate them BUT if on or around the Bellarine there’s no need to protect them.
Harvesting: Once they begin to flower, enjoy their gorgeous petals, and don’t forget to cut some for fresh bouquets! They also last well in a vase 😊
Ranunculus corms definitely add an elegant touch to your garden. Be sure to grab them while they last!
